Birkenfeld is a picturesque little town in Germany, close to the French border. In this tranquil rural landscape one can find one of the world´s most modern veterinary hospitals. Veterinarians from all over the world join the team and offer high end veterinary diagnosis and therapy in an entirely digital environment.
The Birkenfeld Veterinary Hospital and IMAGE Information Systems have jointly installed a new class of veterinary PACS with several unique features.
Every animal receives a 16 digit ID for life to be identified for later diagnosis. Owners and veterinarians can use that number to access to image data, reports and documents via the web at any time and from anywhere. Studbook organizations are able to log into the system to receive diagnostic information for image evaluation.
This is the first PACS which creates image data fully compliant with a veterinary DICOM standard. The system integrates breed, species, owner, studbook data etc., even when using human imaging modalities.
Users inside the hospital can access the wireless system via Apple iPads. All modalities including DR, US, CT, endoscopy and microscopy are connected with the PACS.
The Birkenfeld Veterinary Hospital is not just a hospital for our beloved animals, it also collaborates closely with the European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies at the University of Luxembourg. This school is known throughout Europe and beyond. Here, veterinarians from all over the world learn about the state-of-the art possibilities digital diagnostics has to offer.
Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans Koch, the head of this modern institution, is pulling all the strings. It was his innovative mind and the technologies of the creative developers at IMAGE Information Systems who brought to life a standardized VET-PACS with features developed especially for veterinary use – all within just one year.
