Northern Rivers Equine Vet Clinic, Australia
The challenge for Kath in setting up a mobile practice was finding a solution that could be operated effectively from her car.
Kath McIntosh from Victoria, Australia, started her Northern Rivers Equine Vet Clinic in July 2009 with a focus on equine health.
The challenge for Kath in setting up a mobile practice was finding a solution that could be operated effectively from her car.
“The DR systems are very expensive for a startup practice and the film and chemical based solution for taking images meant I couldn’t be mobile, so that wasn’t practical”. Kath spoke to another veterinary colleague who recommended talking to Read Hedditch from ARO Systems.
Read and the team from ARO Systems worked with Kath to design a portable solution that included a laptop with a 17” screen, a CR System from iCRco, and VET-VIEW from IMAGE Information Systems. With a second battery and inverter, Kath can run the whole system including her x-ray machine from her car battery when no power supply is available. “ARO was quite innovative. I gave them my car and they fitted the whole system from start to finish”.
Kath McIntosh enjoys the benefits of being completely mobile:
“This solution totally suits my needs and my customer’s needs. Now if I see an issue with a horse out on the customer’s property instead of booking a time and the horse having to travel to a vet surgery for x-rays, we do it on the spot. I can then email those images to other practices if necessary. It is much more efficient and productive.”
Since ARO Systems has installed a totally portable digital imaging solution, the business has grown steadily. Kath is now planning to employ office administration staff and more vets to handle her growing practice.
